Former PM lays into NAB in no holds barred speech

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi hit out at the National Accountability Bureau in a speech while speaking at the Asma Jahangir Conference here on Sunday.

Abbasi accused the corruption-watchdog for many a problems in the country. He said that while the law dictated him to keep tabs on his finance records of the last seven years, he was being framed for something that took place more than three decades ago.

He said that he was “all up for accountability” but pointed out that it was difficult to maintain the finance records of the last 35 years.

“If you are accusing me of something, then you should also come out clear with regards to the record of the last 35 years,” he said.

He also said that the tax-imposers should also come clean and declare their assets. He criticised the civil leadership of the country stating that they should be made to answer for their lifestyle if they were not corrupt.
