FIR over assassination attempt on Imran Khan registered at last by Punjab police

A first-information report (FIR) over the attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan was registered at last following the intervention by the Supreme Court. The apex court had directed the Punjab police to either register the case or be ready to face the music.

However, all three persons nominated by Khan – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and a military official Major General Faisal Naseer – have not been named in the FIR. On the other hand, the detained suspect Naveed has been named in the report.

According to several reports, the Punjab Government Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi was not in favour of nominating Maj. Gen. Naseer in the complaint report whereas the PTI leadership was inclined on naming all three as the main suspects. A deadlock, according to insiders, has what caused the delay in the registration of the FIR.
