ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry praised the stance taken by the leaders of opposition parties on the unfortunate Sialkot lynching incident and the statement issued by Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The minister in a joint press conference with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar and IPC Minister Fehmida Mirza said that the condemnation by Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, and Ahsan Iqbal on Maulana’s comment reflects that all political parties were standing against the extremism.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in his tweet, held the government responsible for the Sialkot incident, stating that in past no proper actions were taken against the people accused of blasphemy, resulting in incidents like these.

Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry also criticised fellow party member Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry for giving flowers to Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan chief Saad Hussain Rizvi at his release. He said that the Sialkot lynching case has affected the country’s image but the stance taken by all the political parties was satisfactory as extremism was a concern for all parties.
