Faulty system prevented us from bringing desired changes, says PM Imran

ISLAMABAD: During the certificate distribution ceremony on Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan commented on the government’s performance regarding the promises it had made on bringing changes in the country. He said that the faults in the system didn’t allow him to introduce the changes promised by the party.

Mr Khan said that they wanted to introduce revolutionary reforms, but the incapability of the system to sustain the changes didn’t allow them to do so. He added that the disconnection between the country’s and government interests had been a major hurdle.

Regarding the national interest, the prime minister called import substitution, the surge in exports, and alleviating poverty the prime targets. He also talked about the reforms brought into the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), stating that now bureaucrats could not make any excuse to keep a file pending and stressed on introducing a system where rewards and penalties were imposed.

Mr Khan urged ministers to focus on out of the box ideas for national interest. Meanwhile, he showed dissatisfaction with Special Assistant Arbab Shahzad for revealing names of the top 10 ministries beforehand because he wanted all ministries to attend the ceremony to witness the performances of top-ranked departments.
