Facebook rebrands as Meta

Meta

CALIFORNIA: Facebook Inc has changed the company’s name to Meta on Thursday. The name change occurred following the organisation’s virtual reality ambition for mobile users.

While addressing the virtual and augmented reality conference, the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that rebranding focusses on creating a metaverse rather than being reduced to just a social media platform. He said that the social media platform, however, would continue to be called Facebook.

He said that the concept was evolving in Silicon Valley. It connects the thought of a shared virtual domain accessible to people via different devices.

“Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future,” explained Zuckerberg.

A tech giant having 2.9 billion monthly users has been battling criticism from global lawmakers and regulators. The latest controversy of leaked documents by the former Facebook employee, Frances Haugen, revealed the company choice of profit over user safety. Zuckerberg denied the allegations, stating that a ‘false picture’ was trying to be portrayed through the documents.

The company also revealed the new logo, infinity sign, replacing the famous thumbs-up.
