Demand for early elections becomes hurdle in government-PTI negotiations

The meeting between the President of Pakistan & leader of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf (PTI), Dr Arif Alvi, and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar remained unfruitful. Sources said that Dr Arif Alvi maintained the stance of party leader Imran Khan and demanded early elections. However, Ishaq Dar denied the demand and conveyed that the general election would be held on time.

According to details, Ishaq Dar said that government allies have also voted in favour of holding elections on time and not dissolving assemblies. The statement by the president office stated that the finance minister briefed the president on the economic situation and what measures have government has taken to provide relief to the public.

Meanwhile, Chief of Pakistan Muslim League- Quaid (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has offered his services to act as a mediator between PTI and the federal government. He said that if all politicians stay in contact, we can avoid economical damage. Chaudhry Shujaat added that he would speak to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif if Imran Khan ask him.
