Defence Minister Khawaja Asif says PDM govt mulling ban on PTI

A decision has not been taken yet, but a review is surely underway.

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, confirmed that the PDM-led government was mulling a ban on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the wake of violent turn of events of May 9.

“A decision has not been taken yet, but a review is surely underway,” Asif said, adding, “Imran Khan sees the army as his adversary.”

Commenting on the policies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the defence minister observed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has done “all his politics in the lap of the military, but now suddenly he [Imran Khan] has decided to stand against them [military].”

Khawaja Asif further said that the PTI challenged the foundation of the state by “challenging the defence installations” on May 9.

“Is there any crime that was not committed on May 9? The ISI office was attacked, they tried to enter the Cantonment in Sialkot but that attack was repulsed … they also set fire to the corps commander’s residence in Lahore.”
