Covid sees sharp surge in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is reportedly undergoing a fresh wave of Covid-19 as is happening in rest of the world. The country has reported more than 700 confirmed Covid cases for the first time since October last year.

According to the data shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 708 cases in the last 24 hours. As expected, the country’s test positivity ratio is also creeping up slowly, currently standing at 1.55 per cent.

Sindh reported the highest number of cases with 415, Punjab with 217, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 39, Islamabad with 35, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with two cases. Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan didn’t report any new cases.

Two people lost their lives – one each in Punjab and KP. According to the NCOC, 642 patients remain in critical condition.
