Covid numbers go off charts in Karachi; positivity rate jumps to 28.8pc

KARACHI: According to the numbers shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), it appears that the provincial capital of Sindh is witnessing the very worst of Covid-19 in terms of test positivity ratio. It is feared that the worst may be yet to come as the popular Karachi Eat Festival starts in the city today.

The positivity ratio has jumped to 28.8 per cent in the city, recording an increase of 8.4pc from the previous day. The city’s test positivity ratio has increased seven times in just two weeks, up from 4.74pc on December 31.

Meanwhile, the country has recorded more than 3,000 cases for second consecutive day. The test positivity ratio has spiked to 7.4pc across the country.

Sindh, as expected, reported the highest number of cases with 2,321 followed by Punjab with 843, Islamabad with 299, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 90, Balochistan with 7, Azad Jammu and Kashmir with 7, and Gilgit-Baltistan with four.
