Covid cases increasing sharply; more than 3,000 recorded in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is undergoing the fifth wave of Covid-19 and has recorded more than 3,000 confirmed Covid cases for the first time since September 15 last year. According to the National Command and Operation Centre, 3,019 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

The number of confirmed cases has increased sharply as the country had recorded 2,074 positive cases on Tuesday. The positivity ratio has jumped to 6.12 per cent and is sending shockwaves to Karachi in particular where it has reached alarming levels.

Sindh topped the list of the provinces with the most number of cases. It reported 1,733 positive cases, followed by Punjab with 919, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 64, Balochistan with 11, the federal capital with 284, Gilgit-Baltistan with four, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir with four.

Meanwhile, five deaths related to Covid were reported all across the country.
