Covid booster shots approved for health workers, immunocompromised and people over 50

ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) approved Covid-19 booster shots for citizens aged above 50, people who have weak immune systems, and healthcare workers to tackle the Omicron variant.

The NCOC further added that no cost would be charged for shots however it has not specified which vaccine will be used. However, according to Norbert Almeida, Sinopharm, Sinovac, and Pfizer will be administered as single dose booster shot.

He also tweeted that the Booster shots won’t be mandatory, adding that Pfizer, however will be available at limited places owing to its preservation issues whereas Sinovac and Sinopharm would be available across all vaccination centres.

COVID POSITIVITY RATIO RECORDED AT 0.97 PER CENT IN LAST 24 HOURS
According to the latest tweet by the NCOC, the positivity ratio of Coivd-19 across the country was recorded at 0.97 per cent during the last 24 hours. The health officials conducted 42,381 tests, of which 414 people tested positive. Meanwhile nine people have died of Covid since yesterday. Around 900 patients remain in critical care.
