Court rejects Zahir Jaffer’s request for mental health assessment

ISLAMABAD: Zahir Jaffer’s plea for mental health assessment was rejected by a sessions court here on Wednesday. The sessions were headed by Judge Ata Rabbani.

Counsel for Noor’s family Advocate Shah Khawar had asked the court to dismiss the request by the defendant. During the proceedings, the CCTV footage of the incident day was played. Before playing the video, all media persons were asked to leave the room.

Public Prosecutor Hassan Abbas said at one hearing the accused asked why the court is imposing Section 201 (tempering or giving false information regarding evidence) on him. He also added that the incident occurred in the branch office of Zakir Jaffer’s company. However, the company profile has Zahir’s picture on it.

The court has adjourned the session till Saturday, January 15 while rejecting the request of a medical board formation.
