We’ve been weak in bringing corrupt elements to justice, PM Imran

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan admitted on Thursday that the government had been weak in bringing the corrupt elements to justice. He was speaking to a private channel.

He said that such elements easily evade justice despite there being substantial evidence against them. He added that a money laundering case was being faced by Shehbaz Sharif in the Lahore High Court, while Nawaz Sharif was declared as a proclaimed offender by the Islamabad High Court.

Weak prosecution has allowed all the major corrupt figures to roam freely, added PM. He also talked about the extension in tenure of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The prime minister said that the matter of COAS extension has not been discussed yet as November was still 10 months away. Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa will serve as the COAS till November 28, 2022 as part of his extension in 2019. Mr Khan further said that the relationship between the military and government was ideal. He sounded confident about the government completing its tenure, stating that they’d complete the five-year period.
