LHC issues contempt of court notice to PTI’s Asad Umar over anti-judiciary speech

ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court has issued a contempt of court notice to the senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Asad Umar over his anti-judiciary speech in the Haqeeqi Azadi march.

The petition was filed by the additional registrar of the Rawalpindi registry. Justice Jawad Hassan presided over the hearing.

During the hearing, Justice Hassan remarked that Umar delivered a contemptuous speech and scandalised the courts on November 26. He added that the court had the authority to punish those who made any institution or personality controversial under Article 204 (B).

Justice Hassan further said that everyone had the right to a peaceful protest. The court adjourned the hearing and directed Umar to submit his reply by December 7, 2022.
