CJP Isa directs federal govt to limit military’s control on businesses

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed the federal government to ensure that the Pakistan Armed Forces focussed more on the matters related to defence rather than commercial activities.

Heading a three-judge bench, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa was hearing the case regarding the military’s use of land for commercial activities. The case was first initiated by former CJP Gulzar Ahmed.

Justice Isa expressed disappointment with military building marriage halls and parks on lands that were acquired on the pretext of strategic importance. He directed Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan to assure that the military would not use the lands for running commercial activities and would stay in its domain.
