Blast in mosque near Peshawar Police Lines; 88 killed, 150 people injured

On Monday, over 150 people got injured while 88 people lost their lives in the suicide bomber attack at a mosque in the Police Lines of Peshawar. The unfortunate incident occurred during the Zuhr prayers. According to security officials, the bomber was standing in the front row when he blew himself up.

The area was cordoned off by law enforcement agencies, and an initial investigation has been launched. The injured were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital. The spokesperson of the hospital, Mohammad Asim, said that 60 injured people were brought for medical attention. The health department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has declared an emergency across Peshawar. All medical officials are directed to remain on duty.

Political leadership condemned the attack. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that such attacks are against Islamic teachings. Similarly, former prime minister Imran Khan, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Shireen Mazari strongly opposed the attack.
