KARACHI: The self-exiled leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Babar Ghauri, was arrested last night shortly after landing at Jinnah Terminal here on Monday. He was returning to the motherland from the United States after a period of seven years.
Despite being granted a two-week protective bail from the Sindh High Court, Ghauri was arrested by the police officials. He has been named in cases pertaining to crimes such as corruption, money-laundering, and terror-financing.
It remains unclear as to why the police officials arrested him. According to media reports, an official said that the situation would be clear by tomorrow (Tuesday) as to why, despite the protective bail, he was arrested.
Ghauri has not made public his intentions as to why he decided to return to the country. However, there are some speculations that the MQM-London group led by Altaf Hussain is trying to make a comeback in the Pakistani politics.
