DUBAI: Pakistan’s star batter and all-format captain Babar Azam stamped his authority as the world cricket’s best One-Day International player by winning the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award on Monday. The announcement was made by the ICC on its website.
Babar had a phenomenal year with the bat as he scored 405 runs in only six matches at a staggering average of 67.50. He was key to Pakistan’s away series win over South Africa in the ODIs where he was named the Player of the Match in both games that Pakistan won.
He thanked the fans, the PCB and the ICC for supporting and backing him. According to the ace batsman, his innings of 158 against England at Birmingham was the best knock he has ever played as he was struggling and the innings gave a much-needed boost to his confidence.
