Arrest warrants of Imran, other key PTI leaders issued by ECP

Bailable arrest warrants of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and other key PTI leaders were issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday morning. The warrants have been issued in cases related to contempt of the electoral watchdog.

Nisar Durrani, who was heading a four-member bench, passed the orders. Notices had been issued to Khan and other key PTI leaders last year in August and September for using inappropriate language against the Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja.

The PTI leadership had excused itself, seeking an exemption from in-person hearing. However, the ECP rejected the pleas of the leadership and issued arrest warrants against Rs50,000 surety bonds. It may be recalled that the party leadership has cast aspersions on the CEC Raja, calling him an aide of the ruling government.
