Number of AIDS patients increased in Pakistan: Ministry of Health

ISLAMABAD: In a question-and-answer session held here in Senate on Tuesday, it was revealed by the Health Ministry that Pakistan had witnessed a surge in the number of AIDS patients. The ministry said that AIDS grew more in Pakistan in comparison to any other Asian country.

Deputy Chairman of Senate Mirza Afridi was chairing the Senate session when the Health Ministry made the comments. The ministry attributed the growth in the cases to unregulated and illegal blood transfusions and the reusing of syringes.

Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, while speaking at the session, said that Pakistan had a large number of people infected with the dreaded virus, making it one of the 11 high-risk countries where AIDS is rampant.
