More than 2000 Covid cases reported in Pakistan during last 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: By the looks of it, it is now clear that the country is under the grip of the fifth wave of Covid-19. Pakistan recorded more than 2,000 positive Covid cases in the last 24 hours, marking the first time in four months that the country breached the grim benchmark.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the health authorities conducted 44,120 tests across the country, resulting in 2,074 positive cases with a positivity ratio of 4.7 per cent.

An increase in the death rate was also recorded as 13 more people died due to Covid-19. Previously, the highest number of deaths were reported on December 21 with 10 fatalities.

Sindh reported the most number of cases with 1,402 and nine deaths. Punjab reported 445 cases and two deaths, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 52 cases and two deaths. The federal capital recorded 165 cases while Balochistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir registered 10 cases collectively.

Meanwhile, the NCOC said that during the last 24 hours, 826,996 vaccines were administrated.
