IHC dismisses petitions seeking Zardari’s disqualification

Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Petitions were dismissed against the former president Asif Ali Zardari’s disqualification by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday.

The Chief Justice IHC Ather Minallah termed the act as unwise for the judicial system.

Usman Dar and Khurram Sher Zaman of PTI had filed petitions against the former president in 2019, demanding the court to cancel Zardari’s appointment as MNA as he was unfaithful by not revealing his New York property in the nomination forms of the 2018 general elections.

One other petition was rejected by the court, filed by journalist and TV anchor Samiullah Ibrahim against a former federal minister for not revealing his Lahore and Jhelum properties in the nomination forms for election 2018.

According to Justice Minallah, conflicts between the political parties and citizens should be resolved peacefully without the interference of the judiciary.

He also added that the disqualification of the elected representatives by the court in exercise of constitutional power was harmful for the justice system.
