YouTube has decided to deactivate links in the description of Shorts and comments to combat spam issues. The new YouTube update It will also disable clicking social media icons placed on channel banners. The update will be applied on August 31 to prevent scammers & spammers to mislead users with links.
Similarly, a YouTube update on August 23 will allow to add a link to channels of creators appearing by the Subscribe button. This link can direct the users to merchandise sites or social media platforms.
The video-sharing platform is also working to find and remove impersonation accounts. In Q1 of 2023, 35 per cent more accounts were removed because of impersonation (compared to Q1 of 2022).
