World’s largest volcano erupts in Hawaii after 38 years

The largest active volcano in the world, Mauna Loa, situated in the United States (Hawaii), has erupted after approximately 40 years. According to International media reports, lava and hot ash are flowing continuously for the second day in a row. The pressure on Mauna Loa had increased significantly in the past few years. It began spewing lava and ash on Monday. The surrounding roads have been closed, but the state administration has not evacuated the area.

The administration claims that currently there is no danger to residencies near the volcano, but if the situation worsens they will initiate evacuations. The last time Mauna Loa erupted was in 1984, and its lava reached a distance of seven kilometres.

Mauna Loa, meaning tall mountain, is the largest volcanic mountain in the world and is taller than the Mount Everest. The base of this mountain is located in the ocean and its height from the base to the summit is 17km.
