Women can keep their father’s name on CNIC Nadra

ISLAMABAD: At the 14th Annual Rural Women Conference, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Chairman Tariq Malik has announced that women would have the option to choose to mention their husband’s name or keep their father’s name on their CNIC.
The decision is made to promote women emancipation and encourage them to register and solidify their basic rights. According to the chairman, Nadra has bridged a significant gap between men and women registration with the help of the inclusive registration unit. He said that they were working to introduce reforms through which minorities could also get themselves registered.
“The CNIC is just not a plastic card. It not only protects the rights of women but also empowers them to benefit from the government policies and steps,” he said.
Five hundred women from 109 districts attended the conference organised to applaud the role of rural women in the economy through agriculture. It also condemned the forced conversions and violence that women of the rural areas face in their everyday lives.
