Witchcraft practitioners sentenced to jail in UAE

Seven people were jailed and fined 50,000 dirhams for practising witchcraft in the United Arab Emirates. According to Khaleej Times, the United Arab Emirates Public Prosecution, while sharing the details of the case, said that a man reported that he was a victim of the defendants’ tactics. One of the accused who was arrested said that he was possessed by the king of kings of jinns which was more than 400 years old.

The prosecution said the rest of the defendants also claimed to have a genie who could heal people. The court sentenced these seven persons to 6 months imprisonment and ordered them to pay a fine of 50,000 dirhams in addition to the court fees, on charges of witchcraft, fraud and possession of materials used for black magic.

The Public Prosecution reiterated that the Crimes and Penalties Act was promulgated under Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021. The Public Prosecution said witchcraft & fraud are crimes punishable by heavy penalties and asked residents to report any suspicious activities related to black magic.
