USA-China cooperation necessary for betterment of global climate, says Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto

Islamabad: On Tuesday, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, asserted the point that USA and China should work together for the betterment of the global climate. His statement came after Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, urged Pakistan to converse with China about restructuring the debt.

Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Antony Blinken addressed a joint media briefing on Monday. Blinken said that the USA has highlighted the importance of responsible ties with India and asked Pakistan to involve China in restructuring and debt relief issues so it can recover from the destruction of floods.

In reply, the Spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministery Wang Wenbin said that Beijing had extended its assistance to the people affected by floods. He added that China would participate in rebuilding houses for flood victims. Wang criticised the statement of Antony Blinken by stating that instead of passing comments on the Pak-China cooperation, other nations should do something beneficial. China has provided Pakistan humanitarian assistance of RMB 400 million. Meanwhile, the USA is the largest donor with $56 million and $10 million more for food security.

However, Bilawal has said that the planet cannot be saved from climate change until both nations cooperate. He recalled the statement of United Nations Chief António Guterres to help the countries under the consequences of global warming. António said that Pakistan has faced 24 per cent of the consequences of climate change but contributed a mere 0.8 per cent to it.
