ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the United Nations (UN) appealed to the international community to raise $160 million that will support the relief programmes for the victims of disasters and floods in Pakistan.
Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres said that Pakistan was suffering from the relentless effect of rain and flooding. He added that the climate catastrophe had forced people to take leave from their homes.
Antonio further added that $160 million would help 5.2 million people and provide them with health support, sanitation, water, and food. The UN secretary-general appealed to the international community to support Pakistan.
More than 33 million people, which makes up 15 per cent of Pakistan’s population, have been affected by the floods. The government said that over $10 billion would be required to handle the damages.
