Twitter Reportedly Forcing Brands To Pay $1,000 For Verified Gold CheckMarks

According to a reports, Twitter wants to take advantage of companies on the platform by charging them $1,000 per month to keep their gold checkmark. As noted by The Information , brands that don’t pay the $1,000 monthly fee will lose their gold badges, though it’s unclear when that will happen.

Internal news seen by the outlet also shows that Twitter wants to charge an additional $50 per month to add badges to any company-connected account. This matches a screenshot posted by social media consultant Matt Navarra showing what appears to be an email between Twitter product manager Evan Jones and an anonymous company.

“As an Early Access subscriber, you will receive a gold checkmark for your organization and affiliate badges for your employees,” the email reads. “If you want to subscribe, Verified for Organizations is $1,000 per month and $50 per additional connected handle per month with one month free subscriptions.”

Prior to its Verification for Organizations (formerly Blue for Business) program, Twitter introduced gold badges that allow businesses to verify and distinguish themselves on Twitter. Additionally, businesses can add badges with thumbnail versions of their Twitter profile pictures to the accounts of employees, executives, and anyone else associated with the brand, much like the small Twitter logo on the Twitter product manager. Navarre later followed another screenshot of a direct message between another company and a product manager at Twitter, again confirming the $1,000 per month fee. Twitter still hasn’t officially announced pricing information for its Verification for Organization subscription and began offering early access to the program last month.
