TTP carries out IED attack in Lakki Marwat, four policemen embrace martyrdom in tragic incident

On Thursday, one of the most tragic incidents occurred in Lakki Marwat as four police officers were martyred and several got injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack. The blast happened at the Pirwala Road which took the lives of three constables and a deputy superintendent of police (DSP). The banned Tehreek-I-Taliban Pakistan has accepted responsibility for the attack.

According to the statement by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, the police contingent was heading towards Saddar police station as they received information regarding a terrorist attack. As they crossed the Pirwala turn, an IED blast occurred. DSP Iqbal Momand and constables Ali Marjan, Waqar and Karamatullah embraced martyrdom in the attack.

Some police officers got severely injured including, Head Constable Farooq Shah, constables Amanatullah, Asghar, Sardar Ali and Arif. The injured officers were moved to the Lakki City Hospital for medical assistance.

The last riots of the deceased policemen took place at the Police Line. Senior police officers were present at the funeral prayers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and said they are saddened by the martyrdom of policemen in the militant attack in Lucky Marwat. He added that the sacrifices of our police officers in the war against terrorism are unforgettable. PM Shehbaz Sharif prayed for a speedy recovery of the injured.
