Trade deficit of Pakistan increased by 82pc

Oil and food imports rise between July-October

ISLAMABAD: According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the trade deficit of Pakistan has increased by 82 per cent during the current fiscal year 2021-22.

The data by PBS shows that in February 2021, the trade deficit stood at $2.533 billion, while in February 2022, it increased by 9.7pc reaching $3.095 billion. Compared to last year’s trade deficit of $17.5 billion, this year’s total deficit has swelled to $31.9 billion. Similarly, the imports increased by $1.3 billion and surged to $5.9 billion.

Meanwhile, the exports were increased by 25pc during the current fiscal year, rising to $52.5 billion from last year’s $20.5 billion.
