Swiss government to strongly impose ‘burqa ban’ and fine violators

On Wednesday, the Swiss government sent a petition to the parliament in which they demanded a fine of 1,000 Swiss Francs on people found violating the ‘burqa ban’ law. The proposal stated to stop people from wearing masks to halt protests, but the local media and politicians have referred to it as a burqa ban.

The cabinet urged to add the petition to the criminal code and fine the offenders. Those who agree to the step attributed the facial covering to political Islam. Muslims have condemned the act and said to challenge the decision.

Earlier, France had banned the veils in 2011, followed by Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, and Bulgaria with partial or full bans on the burqa.
