Supreme Court of Pakistan declares Govt-Barrick Gold agreement ‘legal’

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has given its verdict on the Reko Diq agreement on Friday. SC has declared the agreement legal, formed between Pakistan and the Canadian mining company Barrick Gold.

The decision was announced by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, reserved by a five-member bench, on November 29. According to the verdict by the apex court, the 2013 judgement of the SC has not been violated.

It added that the contract was formed under expert opinion and after taking Balochistan Assembly under confidence. Further, the SC found no illegal clause in the agreement and Barrick Gold has ensured to follow labour laws & corporate social responsibility.
