Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe shot dead

Former prime minister of Japan, who also holds the record of being the longest-serving prime minister of the country, Shinzo Abe was shot dead on Friday while he was running an election campaign.

According to a professor at the Nara Medical University hospital, Abe was in a state of cardiac arrest when he was brought to the hospital. The prime minister breathed his last at 5:30pm.

The suspect has been arrested. According to the police officials, the suspect cited his disliking and dissatisfaction with the performance of Abe as prime minister as the motive of the killing.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his “shock” at the news of Abe’s assassination. He took to Twitter to offer his condolences.
