Asia Cup 2023 was surrounded by uncertainty due to constant rain threats and bad weather predictions in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the upcoming 15 days. The rain in Colombo might cause a washout of remaining matches in the Super 4 round.
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to keep all the matches in Colombo despite bad weather forecasts. Now, if the remaining matches are washed out which teams will play the final?
So, as per the situation, Pakistan has defeated Bangladesh and has 2 points. In case of washouts, it will have four points and qualify for the final.
Since Sri Lanka and India won’t be able to play a single game they’ll end up having three points each & same run rate. This means a coin toss will decide the finalist. Bangladesh, after the loss to Pakistan, will have only two points and thus could not qualify for the finals.
In a worst-case scenario that final is washed out, then the two finalists will share the trophy.
Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 Schedule
Sept 9: Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh
Sept 10: Pakistan vs India
Sept 12: India vs Sri Lanka
Sept 14: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka
Sept 15: India vs Bangladesh
Sept 17: FINAL
Earlier, the ACC announced to shift the Super 4 matches to Hambantota as rain in Colombo would disrupt the Asia Cup. The decision was conveyed to all members but was soon retracted. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shown dissatisfaction with the decision and has called for an urgent meeting on the issue.
