KARACHI: According to the notification issued by the Sindh government, all organisations, offices, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils that follow the Sindh government will observe a public holiday on September 1, 2023, on account of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Urs.

The gazette notification issued stated that the Sindh government has declared September 1, 2023, as a public holiday throughout the province of Sindh on the occasion of urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai(RA). It added that the directive is applied to all offices, corporations, local councils, and autonomous, and semi-autonomous bodies, under the administrative control of the government of Sindh.

The Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai ( 1689 to 1752) is observed every year on the 14th Safar (the second month of the Islamic calendar). He is recognised as one of the greatest Sufi poets & respectable saint. In addition to that, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is known as the greatest Sindhi language poet. A collection of his poems is known as “Shah Jo Risalo”, which exists in numerous versions. The compilation has been translated into English, Urdu, and other languages.
