$603 million programme for social protection programmes approved by ADB

ISLAMABAD: A $603 million programme has been approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the expansion and strengthening of social programmes in the country. According to ADP, the programme will operate under conditional cash transfers and aid in executing poverty reduction strategy, Pakistan’s national social protection, and Ehsaas programme.

A loan of $600 million, a $24 million grant through the Education Above All Foundation, and a grant of $3 million by the Asian Development Fund will be provided to Pakistan in the Integrated Social Protection Development Programme, which will help implement the goals by Ehsaas programme, aiming to provide educational facilities till matric and improve healthcare for poor children and women.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar said that the ADP programme would enable better food and health facilities in the districts facing poverty and more students, especially girls, would be able to receive an education.
