Kumara

The Sialkot mob lynching victim, Priyantha Kumara, was buried in his native town on Wednesday. He was given state honours by the Sri Lankan government.

He was brutally tortured, killed and later burnt by a mob over allegations of blasphemy on last Friday. The incident had sent shockwaves around the globe, with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan vowing to give the strictest possible punishment to those involved.

More than a 100 people have been arrested by the Punjab police in connection with the case, and more arrests are expected as the police continue to raid the houses of suspects, their families and friends.

Kumara’s last rites were performed by a Buddhist clergy before his casket was carried on shoulders by friends and family in a procession.
