The price of sugar in Karachi reached an all-time high. According to the details, sugar prices surged by Rs 5 per kg in the wholesale & retail markets. Currently, sugar is being sold at Rs 150 in the wholesale market and Rs 160 in the retail market.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, chairman of the Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association, while explaining the reason for the high price of sugar, said that the sugar mafia and sugar mill owners are fixing the rates. He said that the owners of sugar mills, including former MNAs & MPs, are all involved in increasing the price of sugar in Karachi.
On the other hand, wholesale dealers say the actual price of sugar should be Rs 95 per kg in wholesale and Rs 100 in retail with all the profit.
