PM Shehbaz Sharif directs zero loadshedding during Sehri and Iftar timings in Ramadan

ISLAMABAD: As the month of Ramadan is right around the corner, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives regarding power cuts in the holy month. On Wednesday, Mr Sharif conveyed the message to the power ministry to assure that the electricity supply remains uninterrupted during Iftar and Sehri timings.

Power Minister Khurram Dastagir directed the power supply organisations to make sure of zero loadshedding at two important times of the day in Ramadan. The ministry of power in its statement said that there would be zero-load management before and after one hour of Sehr. The ministry has also directed the DISCOs to ensure power supply before an hour of Iftar and after three hours of Iftar. The plan has been formed by keeping the Taraweeh prayers in mind.

Furthermore, the power companies have also been directed to formulate special teams to address power-related issues during Ramazan at the division and sub-divisions level.

RAMADAN 2023
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet for the sighting of the crescent of Ramazan 1444 AH. The meeting will take place in Peshawar on March 22, 2023, in the building of the Auqaf Department.
The meeting will be presided by Moulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. On the other hand, the zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also meet at their respective offices.

Earlier, the federal government rolled out the Nisab for Zakat deduction for Ramadan 2023. The Nisab this year has been set at Rs 14,232 higher than the previous year.

The provincial education department also issued new timings for Ramadan. The Sindh School Education & Literacy Department released the timings for schools:

-Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM
-Friday: 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM

The federal government also published the operational timings for government offices:

-Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM
-Friday: 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM
