PM Shehbaz Sharif calls NSC meeting to discuss audio leak issue

Islamabad: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has called a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) this week. During the meeting, the primary agenda will be the audio leaks of the prime minister’s conversation with different government representatives. After the audio leaks, the opposition and social media lashed out at the government and questioned the security and privacy of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Interestingly, the audio clips do not have any controversial statements or triggering remarks by PM Shehbaz Sharif regarding opposition, establishment, and foreign policy. It’s a rare incident in world politics that such safe and controversy-free audios have been leaked by ‘unknown sources’. Moreover, the information minister Maryam Aurangzeb has also attributed the leaked conversations to PML-N’s policy of promoting merit.

Shehbaz Sharif has summoned the top leadership of the country, including the interior minister, information minister, finance minister, defence minister, and key cabinet members, to attend the NSC meeting. Sources claim that important decisions will be made about the leaked audio scandal. According to members of PML-N, Shehbaz Sharif would decide to take any action once he return to Pakistan. The meeting will also discuss the situation of law & order, floods, national security and other important matters.
