PATHAAN takes Bollywood by storm

The Bollywood spy thriller film, part of Yash Raj’s spy universe, PATHAAN has shackled the box office with its massive opening on Wednesday. Despite the fact that the movie faced backlash from religious groups, the movie received a housefull reception across all theatres in India.

According to official reports by the Indian news media, Shah Rukh Khan’s pan India movie earned over INR510 million on the opening day. Box Office India reported that PATHAAN had a record-shattering opening day at the box office and as per the early estimates the movie grossed around INR500-510 million. PATHAAN has a major significance for Indian cinema as over the past few months Bollywood saw multiple high-profile flops. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, no Indian film has managed to gather an audience at such a large scale as PATHAAN did on Wednesday.

The Bollywood film critics are also praising the level of opening PATHAAN attained. Girish Johar, a trade analyst and producer, said that people went to theatres even on working days. He added that PATHAAN had an occupancy rate of 65 per cent to 75 per cent (from the 5000 screens) and would grab over 8,000 screens abroad where SRK has a strong fan following.

Taran Adarsh, the movie critic, stated that PATHAAN sold over 556,000 tickets on the first day which nearly beat the record of Baahibali (650,000 tickets on opening day). The film has marked the comeback of SRK on the big screen after four years.
