Pakistan attempts to strike balanced relationship with Ukraine and Russia

ISLAMABAD: In its efforts to keep a neutral stance on the growing Russia-Ukraine crisis, Pakistan has extended support for the sovereignty of Ukraine ahead of the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Moscow tomorrow.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ukraine Emine Dzheppar had a meeting with the Ambassador of Pakistan Major General Noel Israel Khokhar. Emine tweeted about the meeting and thanked Pakistan for its support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Meanwhile, according to the brief by Foreign Office (FO), Mr Khan has been invited for a visit to Russia by President Vladimir Putin. The visit will take place on February 23, 2022.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mr Khan’s visit to Moscow will be only the second time a Pakistani premier has visited Russia in 23 years. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had visited Russia in 1999 the last time. The FO, in its statement, said that the visit would enhance relations between Pakistan and Russia in multiple areas.
