Pakistan reports nearly 1300 Covid cases; Sindh mulls over lockdown

ISLAMABAD/HYDERABAD: The numbers shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) indicate that Pakistan is currently witnessing a steady rise in the number of Covid cases. The country reported 1,293 cases in the last 24 hours, recording a positivity ratio of 2.52 per cent.

More than 50,000 people were tested for the virus on Thursday. Six deaths in different parts of the country were reported due to the virus. The NCOC says that 609 people remain in critical care. Meanwhile, 758,688 people were inoculated with the Covid vaccine in the past 24 hours.

SINDH MULLS OVER LOCKDOWN

According to the Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho, Sindh could undergo a lockdown following a sharp rise in the Omicron cases in the region. She briefed a team of journalists that the province had reported 500 cases of Covid in the past 24 hours with the province recording 170 Omicron infections till date.

Dr Pechuho expressed concern at the speed at which Omicron was spreading in the region, stating that the lockdown could be imposed soon once the situation has been assessed. She also urged the people to get the booster shot as soon as possible.
