Pakistan open to engagement with Afghan Taliban despite their ban on women education

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his disappointment over the latest ban put in place on women’s university education by the Afghan Taliban. However, he reiterated that the best course of action was to keep the channels of the engagement open with them.

While Bilawal acknowledged the ‘setbacks’, he stressed that the end-goals could only be achieved with the help of the interim government in Kabul. He also admitted that at this point in time, the Taliban were the only reality and they had no alternatives.

He said that political instability in Afghanistan could give rise to terrorism in the country and in the region. It is pertinent to mention here that when the Afghan Taliban took control of the country last year, they had promised that their new tenure would be a lot more progressive in approach and be different than their previous one.
