Pakistan break the World Cup jinx, crush India in first high voltage game

DUBAI: Pakistan fans can finally rest easy as Pakistan’s men’s cricket team has crushed India for the first time in any World Cup encounter here on a Sunday night. Guided by their captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets in a lop-sided contest.

Pakistan elected to field first after winning the toss and proved that they made the right call by removing the dangerous Rohit Sharma in the first over of the innings. Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled a phenomenal bowling spell, and quickly sent back the Indian openers in the dug out with India reeling at 6-2.

India captain Virat Kohli led the fight back with a spirited 50, supported by Rishabh Pant at the other end. India managed to score 151-7, setting Pakistan a target of 152. The Pakistan openers started off cautiously and took the charge as the nerves settled down.

Both Babar and Rizwan played sublime knocks and kept India at bay. Pakistan chased down the total in the 18th over and registered their first-ever win and India’s first-ever 10-wicket defeat in a T20I game. With the win over India, Pakistan go on top of the table, with India reeling at the bottom. Shaheen was declared the man-of-the-match for his spell of 31/3 in 4 overs.
