FM Qureshi says Pakistan wants relationship with US based on changed priorities

ISLAMABAD: Speaking at the Margalla Dialogue Forum here on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan wanted a redefined relationship with the global superpower US, based on the developing country’s changed priorities.

He attributed the change in Pakistan’s stance of a redefined relationship with the US to the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision, stating that the premier was more focussed on geo-economics rather than geo-politics.

Qureshi said: “The mindset of geopolitics must be restructured and the importance of geo-economics must be acknowledged. The future of a successful foreign policy depends on not repeating the strategic mistakes of the early 1990s.”

He also said that a humanitarian crisis of huge proportions was looming next door in Afghanistan which could have far-reaching consequences for the whole region.
