Opposition raises questions on hiring retired army officers in Nadra

ISLAMABAD: Opposition senators raised questions on Wednesday over the appointment of retired armed forces’ officers in National Database Registration Authority’s (Nadra).

Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed questioned a number of hirings on deputation in Nadra, asking how many armed forces representatives are serving there. He showed dissatisfaction with the previously provided answers. He said that despite the rising unemployment of youth, retired army officers were being provided with jobs in Nadra.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan responded that six employees were hired in Nadra on deputation. He added that none of them belonged to the armed forces.

Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said that precise detail should be given as to how many employees of Nadra were from the army. He asked for their appointment details, job description, and qualifications, adding that according to his knowledge around two dozen employees were retired officers of the army.

Khan stated that he’d respond to the question in detail. He explained that no hiring has been done on special privilege and every one is employed according to the requirement of the job.
