ISLAMABAD: It was decided in a meeting of the National Security Committee on Thursday that a strong reply would be given to the United States for allegedly trying to meddle with Pakistan’s internal affairs.
The meeting was convened by Prime Minister Imran Khan yesterday following the sharing of the contents of the diplomatic cable received from the Pakistan Embassy in the US. The NSC is reported to have expressed serious concerns over the US interference in Pakistan’s current political landscape.
It is said that the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu had categorically told his Pakistani counterpart that Pakistan could face serious consequences if the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan failed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the opposition had out-rightly rejected the claim by the prime minister, stating that there was no such letter in the first place. With the NSC acknowledging the letter, the opposition now believes that the prime minister is at the risk of further damaging an already fragile relationship with the US.
