Nine dead in fire incident at Bulgaria’s nursing home

SOFIA: According to an official of Bulgaria Interior Ministry, a fire incident at a nursing home in the Royak village left nine dead and a few elderly occupants gassed.

The Head of the Fire Safety Department Tihomir Totev said that the fire started from the rooftop, made of wood. Firefighters evacuated 58 residents of the nursing home safely.

“When the six fire machines arrived at the home, the rooftop was engulfed in huge flames and black smoke. Firefighters started evacuating the residents, but unfortunately, nine people lost their lives,” said the head.

The cause for the fire eruption remains unknown with the authorities stating that further investigation was in the process.

A similar accident occurred in a nursing home in Ukraine in which 15 people lost their lives and 11 got injured. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the interior minister to investigate the incident.
